John Ganzi

[PDF:369K]John is a start-up expert with over 30 years of experience working in the energy, finance, and environmental areas. Currently he is the President of Environment & Finance Enterprise and Treasurer of the North Carolina Sustainable Energy Association. In 2008 he successfully launched and became CEO of the Biofuels Center of North Carolina, a well funded quasi-governmental agency focused on establishing a multi-billion dollar biofuels industry in NC. Other start-up operations John has led this decade include The Finance Institute for Global Sustainability, a 501(c) 3 non-profit and Eco Inn Experiences, a for-profit. Before establishing Environment & Finance Enterprise in the early 1990’s John was a banker at Salomon Brothers and Citicorp. He has two masters degrees, an MBA from Michigan and an MS in Environmental Studies from NYU, to go along with an undergraduate degree from Georgetown University.

Franz Knecht

[PDF:134K]Franz has been working in the field of sustainability since 1991 when he established the environmental management unit at Swiss Bank Corporation (now UBS). During the 1990’s he established the bank’s environmental credit risk management system, socially responsible investment product line, and wrote their first sustainability report. In 1999, he founded CONNEXIS whose clients include international NGOs, governmental agencies, financial firms, manufacturing and service sector companies. He is an expert on corporate sustainability reporting, has extensive experience in performing environmental due diligences for capital transactions and corporate restructuring activity, and has experience in corporate education, strategy development and implementation. He was a visiting scholar at Cambridge University and Imperial College (UK), Lund University (Sweden), and Helsinki University (Finland). He has a Masters in law from Basel University, Switzerland and holds several diplomas in banking and communication. Franz is a Swiss citizen based in Basel, speaks five languages, and works in Europe, the Middle East and North America.

Melissa Shackleton Dann

For over twelve years, she was in private philanthropy with the Wallace Global Fund, serving as Executive Director for three years. She developed all aspects of the Fund’s environmental portfolio, including early engagement on climate change, commodity certification, reform of international financial and trade institutions. She spearheaded it's first PRI, raising the profile of using capital markets to drive environmental and social change within NGO and foundation communities. Ms. Dann is a recognized leader as demonstrated through board memberships and leadership positions, including the Consultative Group on Biological Diversity (Chair of the Board); Fauna & Flora International (Chair, U.S. Board); Forest Stewardship Council Global Fund and RARE. Earlier, she directed programs for the US-Asia Environmental Partnership, a $100 million dollar USAID-funded initiative and held senior positions with several global NGOs.
